Hi,
We(Uma Kandaswamy and Ravikumar Balasubramaniam) have been living in cumming GA since 2006 april, and we are green card holders who received green card one and half years back. We had a son in sep 2006 and named him Aaditya Balakandan Ravikumar with out any hassle in 2006 in GA at the same hospital(Northside)
But on April 3rd when we welcomed our daughter in to this world, at Northside hospital. The vital records guys at the hospital refused to put my husband's first name as my daughter's last name and said there is new law in GA, that says we should either name our daughter with mom's or dad's lastname or a combination of both and not father's first name.. This was really wierd to me in this free country..and no other state seem to have this, because my brother recently had a baby in NJ and named him with his first name with no trouble.
We wanted to name our daughter "Kaavya Magdalene Ravikumar" Instead the birth certificate has "Kaavya Magdalene KandaswamyBalasubramaniam" for now.
The SSN/Vital records government office guys refused to even discuss or explain the law and blankly said get a court order and we will change ur daughter's name.
Now we are in the process of taking this to court and changing her name to what we wanted before applying for passport etc..
FYI: I somehow feel like the law is suggesting that we can name our kid either on of these ways and not really enforcing...
Georgia Code - Health - Title 31, Section 31-10-9 - Georgia Attorney Resources - Georgia Laws (http://law.onecle.com/georgia/31/31-10-9.html)
Can you please advice. It is somehow hard to believe in the most freedom loving country of immigrants, Immigrant parents can't name their baby what they want to and go through this hassle.
Thank you. Any help is appreciated.

Hello everyone,
It is extremely unfortunate but I have lost my green card. I cant seem to find it anywhere. I know that it has not been stolen, just lost! I need to apply for a replacement green card ASAP. I need to submit some initial documents along with my I-90 form for it. I have been trying to search on the internet regarding it but I cant seem to find a clear answer.
Long story short, could somebody please tell me what initial documents are there to submit along with my I-90 form? I have a copy of my original green card, but is there anything else required? Am I required to submit my photos along with my form?
I would highly appreciate if someone could reply to my queries ASAP.
Thank you very much in advance.
When my wife lost it, I sent the copy of the green card along with I-90. I also went to the local USCIS office to get the stamp of I-551 on her passport as well.
I believe they will schedule for fingerprinting and photo will be taken at that time. (eventually we did found her missing GC and cancelled the request and hence did not go through the entire process) :)
Regards

Hi All,
I recently got my I140 approved and I am waiting to file my I485 as my priority date(Oct 2007) is still not current(EB2 category, India). Not sure how long it is going to take as the current backlog is July 2000 for India and China.
My brother is a citizen of the US and I need to clarify if my brother can apply for a family-based green card for me and how long does it take to get the EAD when applied through this process as compared to filing through the employer when I reach my priority date.
Also need to clarify if this process is sooner or still the same as applying through the employer.
Thanks in advance.

If that is the case, why don't you opt for 1 and not go for stamping? Indeed you don't need to if you are planning to use AP.

Is it too little, too late? I wonder what Canon is already working on to top this.
